Julian Skinner is a Senior Engineer here at Kajabi. We’re turning the spotlight over to him on our blog to showcase his professional accomplishments and how he approaches each day:

Can you elaborate on what you do here at Kajabi?

I am on the Themes team. We are the team that is responsible for all things Website and Design related. Being a Full-Stack engineer, means that I work on front-end code, backend, and database stuff. Since October 2021, I have been working on converting the Theme Editor from old technology to React.

What is a professional accomplishment you’re particularly proud of?

My biggest accomplishment, getting to this point of my career without any formal education. At the time which I started, it was common to be rejected for not having a degree in Computer Science. As time went on and my knowledge and experience increased, it became easier to land new jobs.

How has your cultural identity impacted your journey working in tech?

That’s really a difficult question. Being in the field for so long, it’s been a rollercoaster of challenges and emotions.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Every month is BHM. There is something to celebrate whether it’s an inventor's birthday, or something that occurred during that month. I do try to use BHM as a way to encourage or educate others both in and out of the community.

A quotation, mantra or affirmation you live by?

Each day is a new beginning. If there was something that didn’t go well, or you felt bad about something; having the ability to wake up to see another day, is just another opportunity to be able to improve or try again.

What do you love about working at Kajabi?

I love that Kajabi provides a platform for everyday people to accomplish their dreams of having a passive income. Well that’s more of a reason why I came here, but now that I’m on the inside, it’ s the people that I enjoy working with. Everyone is pretty much down to earth and willing to help each other out in various ways. The work we do here is awesome, it’s rewarding knowing that the work you do is helping others.
