The Challenge: Building a Business From Scratch
In 2019, Lindsay, a former teacher, was pregnant and wanted to find a way to stay home with her newborn when the time came. So she decided to take what she knew best — her teaching experience — and turn it into digital products.
She started by creating printables and lesson plans for other teachers. After seeing success with her digital products, she created her first online course called The Resource Academy, which trains teachers how to create their own activities and worksheets.
“When I was a teacher, we didn’t have a textbook, so I was forced to create my own materials,” she recalls. “I knew other teachers needed to learn this as well, so I created a course.”
The challenge she ran into was finding a seamless way to run her business tools as the business grew — from managing her email list and landing pages to implementing payment processing.
“I knew with other tools, I’d have to piece together multiple programs and use Zapier to connect it all,” she says. “I wanted something more simple and streamlined.”

Looking Ahead: Growing in Business and Life
As Lindsay continues to help more teachers, her goal is to continue to scale. “I’d love to serve over 5,000 people while also having plenty of time to be present with my kiddos,” she says. “That’s what’s most important, and that’s why I left the classroom to start this business in 2019!”
Lindsay’s advice for other entrepreneurs is to do your research before launching — but don’t let perfection get in the way.
“Make sure to do market research and choose a course topic that people will actually buy,” she says. “Beta launch the program before even finishing it. Accept that imposter syndrome happens to everyone, but just keep moving forward. And as my fave business coach, Rachel Ngom, says: ‘Take messy action!’”
