Interested in creating a Wix membership site? Want to create an online course with Wix? If you’re looking for a Wix alternative, you need a good Kajabi vs. Wix review.

We've got you covered. This detailed Kajabi vs. Wix comparison will help you understand:

  • The differences between each platform
  • How they approach different features
  • Which one is best for your business if you want to create a membership site or sell online courses.

Let's jump in!

Kajabi vs. Wix: The biggest differences

Wix is primarily a website-building tool that has added features to support your business. It lets you create a variety of websites with drag-and-drop simplicity. You can also sell courses and memberships, but for that, you’ll need add-on features or extensions that come at an additional cost.

Kajabi is an all-in-one platform designed specifically for knowledge entrepreneurs who are serious about launching and growing a successful business. Since launching in 2010, Kajabi has empowered 60,000+ entrepreneurs in 120 countries to make $5 billion in sales by selling digital products to 60 million students.

What does that mean for your business? In our comprehensive comparison, we take a deep dive into the features of each platform to see not only how they stack up, but how they can help you to grow and scale your business.

Website building

Throughout the years, Wix has secured a well-deserved spot among the top website builders. Wix was one of the first online web building applications and made editing easy with their WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) drag-and-drop editor.

It has thousands of templates and instant access to the majority of them. It also gives you the option to host your website.

However, if you want to remove Wix branding from your domain name URL, sell anything online, or remove ads, you'll need to upgrade to one of their premium plans. You’ll also need to invest in additional extensions that build onto Wix’s core functionality. All of this means additional costs and complexity for you.

Kajabi's website builder is also rooted in simplicity. It has a drag-and-drop editor that lets you place elements where you want them. And Kajabi handles all of the back-end coding and design.

Since Kajabi is an all-in-one platform, it’s already set up for online sales of your courses and memberships. No need for any plug-ins, add-ons, or extensions.

Kajabi's website builder gives you customizability while keeping your website looking good, loading fast, and responsive for mobile devices.

Website template

When evaluating Kajabi and Wix, you’ll find that both incorporate WYSIWYG editors and offer similar flexibility with their templates.

You can think of a website template as the framework that determines your website’s page layout. Templates are designed to give your pages a unified look and feel.

Wix has more than 500 templates. New ones are created each year, but compared to modern, mobile-friendly layouts being used by today’s websites, some of Wix’s templates may appear dated.

Kajabi doesn’t provide as many templates, but the templates are tailored to the needs of knowledge entrepreneurs. They give you a lot of flexibility to lay out your page exactly the way you want. This includes, for instance, having your membership pages look different than the rest of your site.

Course creation

To create an online course using Wix, you'll need to invest in one of its premium website plans. The free tools don’t allow you to accept payments. Nor do they give you storage space for your training materials, such as videos and downloads. Wix also has storage limits for these documents:

  • 3 GB - Combo Plan
  • 10 GB - Unlimited Plan
  • 20 GB - VIP Plan and Business Basic Plan
  • 35 GB - Business Unlimited Plan
  • 50 GB - Business VIP Plan

Depending on the number of courses you offer, whether you incorporate high-grade images, and how many resources you give your students, you could max out these limits quickly. If that happens, you’d need to invest in storage upgrades.

You'll also need to invest in several add-ons (both free and paid) in order to transform Wix into a course-selling platform.

Kajabi, however, is a powerful digital learning platform. Like its website builder, the course builder offers drag-and-drop simplicity. Set up the structure of the lesson (Kajabi walks you through this on their Kajabi University courses), upload your content, and publish.

And Kajabi works with Wistia to host your video content at no extra cost, with no upload limits. This means you can upload as many videos as you want to the platform without worrying about bandwidth or storage space limits.

Student engagement

Student engagement is another area where Kajabi dominates since Wix has no comparable feature set. Within Kajabi, you have the option to assess student performance through quizzes and surveys.

These may be self-assessments, where students fill in the blank or choose from multiple options, so they can see for themselves how well they learned the material. Or they may be graded assessments or “tests” that the student must pass before moving to the next lesson.

Assessments help you evaluate how well your students are learning. You can find their results in the dashboard in the assessments tab. This information can help you decide where you need to create supplemental material to help students achieve the outcomes they’re looking for.

Kajabi’s analytics also shows you your students’ progress in the course. And you can access this information on an individual student and course-wide basis. This gives you insight into how your customers are using your knowledge product, where they might be stalling out, and where you can improve.

Marketing tools

With its free package, Wix does not offer any marketing tools. To access their email marketing plan, you’ll need to pay extra for an Ascend plan. Wix has three Ascend plans to choose from.

  • Ascend Basic ($10/month) - allows you to send a maximum of five campaigns and 9,500 emails per month. That means if you have 1,000 email subscribers, and you want to email all of them, you can only send a maximum of 9 emails.
  • Ascend Professional (starting at $24/month) - 20 email campaigns and 50,000 emails per month. 20 social posts per month. 5 site contributors.
  • Ascend Unlimited (starting at $49/month) - unlimited email campaigns, unlimited emails per month, unlimited social posts per month

Ascend does allow for automation, but these are also limited in the first two pricing tiers. Segmentation is another feature that’s missing here.

As with the course builder, marketing tools are built into Kajabi. The platform offers a complete marketing toolkit, including email marketing software. And you don't need to pay extra or install extensions or add-ons to access it.

Kajabi's email marketing goes beyond the basics. It includes intelligent segmentation that lets you segment customers by groups using the criteria you specify. You can even create behavior-based segmentation that triggers only when certain conditions are met.

For example, let's say you wanted to offer a coupon code for your intermediate course to students who complete your beginner's course. Using Kajabi's intuitive email marketing system, you can set up an automation to automatically trigger the email when students complete your course or submit their final assessment.

At the top of the funnel, Kajabi offers blogging, podcast hosting, and newsletters, which help you create quality content that attracts your core audience.

To help you sell your digital products, Kajabi offers Funnels, which allow you to create advanced sales funnels in just a few clicks.

Funnel templates follow best practices for a variety of sales funnels, including webinars and free-book offers. Use them to build an effective sales funnel without having to spend hours designing and building complicated sales flows.

And once you’ve sold your digital products, Kajabi will help you manage your clients’ payments. It includes automated abandoned cart emails, 1-click upsells, coupons, free trials, and much more.

Third-party integrations

Third-party integrations expand the functionality of a platform by connecting with other services you may already use and enjoy.

Wix requires such integrations in order to create, deliver, and sell online courses and memberships. Because of that, its store offers many extensions that you can use to create your business website.

From adding on e-commerce functionality to letting you create memberships and courses, there are tons of options available to customize and extend your Wix website.

However, just because those integrations exist doesn't mean they'll install easily and seamlessly, or perform as expected. Free add-ons usually come with minimal features. If you want to unlock customization or more advanced options, you’re forced to upgrade to the paid version.

By contrast, Kajabi is designed to give you an elegant business website without having to integrate third-party tools and plugins. Even so, Kajabi does integrate with many well-known marketing products and services, including Google Analytics, Segment, and Facebook Pixel, so you can track your website metrics.

And if you’re attached to your email marketing platform, you can continue using it seamlessly with Kajabi. Kajabi integrations include:

  • ActiveCampaign
  • AWeber
  • ClickFunnels
  • ConvertKit
  • Drip
  • MailChimp

It also integrates with other apps through Zapier.

NOTE: Using Zapier with Kajabi can get technical and complicated. You may need to have some development and programming experience or hire a developer who does.

Customer support

Wix offers a number of helpful articles through its self-serve knowledge base. There you can find help on everything from getting started to setting up an online store, using the online editor, and diagnosing common issues.

Wix offers customer support at various hours in different languages, although depending on the language, you may only be able to get service via email or phone.

Generally, Wix support is handled through trouble tickets. After submitting a ticket, you’ll be matched with an appropriate technical support or customer service representative who can help you.

Kajabi also offers a comprehensive knowledge base and email support. Its Growth and Pro level plans provide live chat support as well.

Kajabi’s knowledge base teaches you how to quickly get up and running. And Kajabi University gives you free training about the nuances of launching and scaling a profitable online business.

Both Wix and Kajabi have large communities of happy users who can help point you in the right direction if you happen to get stuck at any point in the process.

Pricing

Wix offers a variety of plans, including a popular free plan, that allows you to create a simple website with Wix's branding. The platform's paid plans are split into Website Plans, Business & eCommerce Plans and Enterprise Plans.

Website Plans

  1. Combo: $16/month
  2. Unlimited: $22/month
  3. Pro: $27/month
  4. VIP: $45/month

These prices only allow you to build a website. If you want to sell products, such as online courses or memberships, you’ll need one of its three Business and eCommerce Plans:

  1. Business Basic: $27/month
  2. Business Unlimited: $32/month
  3. Business VIP: $59/month

If you want to turn your Wix site into an online store to sell digital and physical products, take bookings, or sell event tickets, the Business Basic plan may be all you need. But if you want to sell subscriptions or have a Wix membership site and charge recurring payments, then you’ll need either the Business Unlimited or Business VIP plan.

Its highest priced plan starts at $500/month. This is an enterprise-level tier with numerous customizable features that can be adjusted for your specific needs. But as of 2023, they no longer list this price on their website, and to obtain pricing for this plan, you need to set up a call.

In addition to the space and bandwidth constraints, some features are locked depending on the tier of the plan you choose. For example, you must purchase the Business or e-Commerce Plans to unlock the ability to sell on social channels or automatically charge sales taxes.

Kajabi offers three pricing tiers:

  1. Basic: $149/month ($119/month if billed annually)
  2. Growth: $199/month ($159/month if billed annually)
  3. Pro: $399/month ($319/month if billed annually)

At first glance, this looks more expensive than Wix. But keep in mind that, with Wix, you must pay separately for:

  • A custom domain name
  • Email marketing
  • Quizzes/surveys or other assessments
  • Marketing funnels
  • Affiliate marketing management
  • And more

Third-party integrations will likely have their own subscription fees. In the end, it's likely to add up to much more than the monthly cost of Kajabi.

By contrast, Kajabi’s pricing is straightforward and simple. Every pricing tier offers the same features. The only difference is scale.

As you move up to a higher plan, you’ll be able to sell more products, build more funnels, have more contacts and active customers, and add more admin users to your account.

For example, the Basic plan lets you have 3 products and 10,000 contacts, while the Growth plan allows up to 15 products and 25,000 contacts. Finally the Pro plan allows for 100 products and 100,000 contacts.

And like Wix, Kajabi also offers a customizable plan for larger businesses that can be tailored to fit their specific needs.

Kajabi doesn't have a free plan. However, it does offer a 14-day free trial. And by taking advantage of their annual billing option, you can save 20% over the cost of subscribing month to month.

Kajabi vs. Wix: Which is better?

In looking at a detailed Kajabi vs. Wix comparison, it may seem like both platforms are geared toward helping you to sell online. But only one of them is built to help you grow and sustain an online business over the long term, and that's Kajabi.

What makes Kajabi outperform Wix is its all-in-one approach. Rather than having you spread your energies (and spend your money) across several applications while cobbling together some semblance of a cohesive system, Kajabi has everything you need in one central platform.

You don’t need a separate landing page builder, email marketing platform, or analytics dashboard because they're already integrated (although third-party options do exist for your favorite applications).

Kajabi is a phenomenal Wix alternative as well. If you're already using Wix, add up how much you're spending on hosting, domain name, e-commerce, email marketing, and other aspects of your online business. It's possible that you're paying more per month — and expending more energy keeping them all working together — than if you'd simply switched to Kajabi.

With Kajabi, you don't need to hire a programmer or web developer to wrangle the code. Although Wix does offer integrations, they don’t control how easy they are to use. And if you want a custom feature, you'll likely need a developer or designer to make it happen.

And for digital products such as online courses and memberships, nothing beats Kajabi. Its features were designed specifically to sell knowledge products, and it already includes the functionality you need to grow your business.

Since its launch in 2006, Wix has added a lot to their ensemble of products and services, but at its core, it’s still a free website builder that requires add-ons to transform it into an online business. If you want to create online courses, Kajabi is the more elegant choice.

Having everything integrated frees you up from technical challenges. The less time you spend on integrations and managing multiple platforms and tools, the more time you have to focus on creating and selling your products.

The Kajabi all-in-one platform also makes it easier for you to scale and grow your business without having to pay extra for additional features. You only pay more when your business grows enough to move up to the next current plan.

Kajabi offers a risk-free 14 day trial, with all its features unlocked, so you can try the platform on for size. Structure your first course or membership, explore all the built in tools and analytics, and learn exactly what it takes to sell your knowledge successfully online.

There has never been a better time to join other entrepreneurs and take advantage of the growing knowledge economy. Whether you decide to dabble in course creation as a side hustle or you want to dive fully into creating high performing membership sites that convert, there's a Kajabi plan that makes the process easy and hassle-free.
