If you’re interested in creating online courses or a thriving membership, you need a reliable, scalable platform to use as your launchpad. If you’re deciding between Kajabi and Teachfloor, you’ve likely searched for Teachfloor reviews and tried to determine which solution would be the best option to help you grow your business.

At Kajabi, we’re here to help make your decision easier. In this deep-dive, we’ll review Teachfloor’s features and how Teachfloor compares to Kajabi to help you sell your course online. Let’s jump in!

What is Teachfloor?

Teachfloor is an online course-creation platform that allows users to create cohort-based courses. It can be used for live and on-demand classes delivered through Zoom. And, it gives your functionality to sell courses and manage and organize your student roster.

Teachfloor specifically targets organizations that specialize in training, such as schools, training centers, and online bootcamps. With this focus, its features are designed more to help instructors manage an academic course than on starting a knowledge business.

What is a cohort-based course?

Think of cohort-based courses as something akin to a university course with a syllabus that outlines what will be covered and when. A cohort in this case refers to a group of students that go through the course at the same time.

A cohort-based course is usually launched once or twice a year and remains unavailable between launches. Instruction is offered for a set time period — anywhere from six weeks up to 12 months. As in a university class, students get access to and learn the same course material at about the same rate.

What other features does Teachfloor offer?

As a course building platform, Teachfloor is centered entirely around a virtual academy-style program. To know whether it’s right for you, we need to look closely at a few of its features:

  • Curriculum builder
  • Live and on-demand courses
  • Landing pages
  • Detailed analytics
  • Members’ areas
  • Basic email automation

Curriculum builder

Teachfloor has an easy-to-use curriculum builder that lets you quickly build a course. Once your videos and resources are uploaded, you only need to set a start- and end-date for your course, and you’re ready to start promoting it.

Teachfloor does a good job with cohort-based courses. But what if you want to sell different types of training?

Kajabi lets you create a knowledge commerce business that sells courses, ebooks, memberships, coaching, private podcast episodes, and more. If you can imagine it, you can sell it on Kajabi.

For example, you can create a limited quantity Kajabi offer, creating a sense of urgency that boosts your sales and revenues. Teachfloor doesn’t offer such functionality.

And on Kajabi, you can build several different types of courses, like drip courses or on-demand self paced courses. Kajabi’s Product Blueprints and intuitive drag-and-drop builder make it easy to create your course, as well as high-converting product pages and content that helps you build a loyal audience.

Live vs. on-demand courses

Both Teachfloor and Kajabi allow you to build your course with pre-recorded videos or live sessions. Experts argue over which format is better, but the truth is there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.

Live courses have more engagement simply because they’re live. But on-demand courses let students learn at their own pace, which may suit their needs perfectly if they’re a parent, working a full-time job, or have other obligations.

In terms of course production, both Kajabi and Teachfloor allow instructors to deliver their training in the way that best fits their needs.

Landing pages

Both Kajabi and Teachfloor include a drag-and-drop landing page builder. You can choose a theme as a starting point or build your own from scratch.

One of the things that sets Kajabi apart is that you can choose the same theme for all of your marketing, giving you a consistent look and feel across all your channels. If you choose a theme for your online course landing page, you can use that same theme in your email marketing initiatives, and across your fully-fledged website which is included in your Kajabi membership.

So it’s easy to create a unified brand experience that’s both attractive and mobile-friendly. This is important because, at the end of the day, you’re not just “selling a course.” You’re building a brand and a reputation for quality.

Detailed analytics

In our Teachfloor research, we weren’t able to find much information about the analytics that are included in your account. Their website says you can “track your students ‘ progress and get extensive insights into how your learners perform” with their tools.

You need customer data to realistically know what steps to take in order to improve your course or create new offers.

Kajabi believes that one of the keys to business success is the ability to make good data-driven decisions. So they not only give you analytics on your course’s performance, they give you a complete overview of your business in the analytics dashboard:

  • Net revenue
  • Subscription metrics
  • Opt-ins
  • Page views
  • Offers sold
  • And more

This data helps you see the big picture of how your business is performing, how well your marketing is working, and whether your course is meeting your students’ expectations and needs.

Here again, having access to this kind of information positions you as more than just a course creator or instructor. It positions you as a business owner who’s focused on growth and delivering the best course possible.

Members’ areas

To help your students learn, it’s important to encourage student engagement. There are multiple ways you can do that: in live training sessions or in the comments section within your course, for example.

This gives your students a secure place to discuss what they’re learning, get help, and ask questions.

Teachfloor’s member area is designed like an academic forum. Also known as the Wall, it sounds like it performs like a social media platform, allowing students to comment, ask questions, and engage with one another.

With Kajabi, you also get a built in membership management software.

Simply prompt your students with a question or challenge. With the built-in comment’s section, you can drive a lot of engagement that encourages learning and growth.

This makes it easy to create a paid membership that sells as a standalone product. Simply upload your content or training on a regular basis, and invite your members to add their comments.

Worried about building it out? Kajabi’s Blueprints help you create a membership website in just a few clicks. All you need to do is fill in the course materials and you’ll be up and running in minutes.

Email automation

Last but certainly not least, let’s look at the email marketing software you get with each of these platforms.

Teachfloor includes basic email automation, which lets you schedule and send out simple reminder messages to your students. This feature integrates with Zoom, so you can automate announcements about your live classes.

This is a smart feature that saves you time when scheduling your classes. But it’s not designed to be a full-blown email marketing software.

Kajabi’s email automation has the features of a stand-alone email service, making it comparable to paid services such as Mailchimp or ConvertKit. That means you’ll be able to build marketing funnels (or Pipelines), create a newsletter, and send promotional emails as well as your course-update emails.

For example, with Kajabi, you can offer a free giveaway (such as a preview of your course or PDF lead magnet) to build your email list. Use a pre-built template to build a follow-up campaign that helps you sell more courses to more people.

Have more than one course or digital product? No problem. Kajabi makes it easy to segment your email list and only send communications to the people who will want to read them.

This type of intelligent segmentation not only helps you retain more students, it also ensures that the right students in the right course get the right messages at the right time.

Using Kajabi as your all-in-one course creation platform frees you up from having to pay extra to an email marketing provider solely for email marketing or customer management services. With Kajabi, it’s all included.

How much does Teachfloor cost?

Teachfloor’s Pro plan, at $99/month, lets you create an unlimited number of courses. However, you’re limited to only 100 students and just 5 GB of storage. If your course is heavily video-based, you may find this isn’t nearly enough space to store the videos and resources you want to include in your course.

This $99/month includes a Zoom integration, so you can teach live lessons to your students, as well as Stripe payment processing, the ability to record your class, and the ability to create unlimited courses with unlimited instructors and administrators. (That includes the 100-student threshold and 5 GB storage limit.)

Teachfloor does offer a Business account, which allows more than 100 students and up to 20 GB of file storage. No price is given for this package, so it’s unclear how much more you’ll pay for this plan.

Kajabi’s pricing keeps things as transparent as possible. You get the same access to all of Kajabi’s business-building features, no matter which plan you choose, with limitations by plan on the number of products and email contacts.

So let’s evaluate the Basic plan. At $119 month with an annual payment, it does cost more than Teachfloor but it includes a wide range of additional features — most notable, the ability to have up to 1,000 active members.

With Kajabi’s Basic plan, you can create an unlimited number of landing pages (no disk space restrictions) and send an unlimited number of marketing emails (up to 10,000 contacts).

These higher limits give you far more potential to scale your business. And with Kajabi’s other marketing and business-growth features, they make Kajabi a strategic choice for building your business.

Third-party requirements

A good course-creation platform has a built-in shopping cart, so it’s easy to sell your courses.

Teachfloor does include a shopping cart, but they require you to sign up with a system called WOFH to process your payments. WOFH is an online payment and course building system for gyms, yoga teachers, pilates teachers, and other fitness trainers.

Their shopping cart isn’t a robust solution on its own. That opens the door to tech issues down the road, if these products become incompatible.

Kajabi’s payment processor connects to Stripe and PayPal, the industry leaders in online payments.

The bottom line on our Teachfloor review

Which is better: Teachfloor or Kajabi?

Teachfloor is a great option if you want to create an online course as a side-gig or hobby, rather than building a full-blown business. If you only need a few basic features and you’re committed to offering only cohort-based courses to a small number of students, Teachfloor may be a solid option.

However, if you’re looking to build a business that’s scalable and can grow with you as you develop high-value courses and digital products, Kajabi is your best bet.

These two platforms are priced comparably, but with Kajabi, you get access to many more features. As a result, there are no limits to what you can build. Here are the features you get with your Kajabi membership:

  • Online courses
  • Podcasts
  • Memberships
  • Newsletters
  • Coaching
  • Websites
  • Payments
  • Email
  • Pages
  • Pipelines
  • Analytics

With so many features built into your knowledge commerce platform, you can move beyond simply creating a course. You can create a business without having to worry about tech, how it works, and whether it integrates with everything else you’re using.

You get everything you need to start, launch, and grow. Try Kajabi free for 14 days and see for yourself how easy it is to build a business around your knowledge.
